More of the Dark British Horror Comedy (is that the genre?) that doesn't get made too often anymore. Serkis is obviously the new Sean Pertwee and that's no bad thing seeing as they never let Sean be Sean nowadays. A gruesome and offensive movie that should stand the test of time although probably not be revisited too often. I kept waiting for the League of Gentlemen black comedy pay off that never really arrived. I would assume that Elllison was just playing herself in this one. Mouthy & offensive scaly.
Old school psychological horror. It's not a bad effort with some genuine scares but as was said at the time, very Twilight Zone-ish, and they always worked better as shorter skits. In places this is very intense, scary, dark and sad. At other times, just a bit predictable and funny. But then this is intentional I think, and maybe why the movie works with Cusack in the lead. I was worried as he is always the same cock-sure Cusack character, but that's the idea. One of the better SK adaptions I've seen of late, but may of worked even better as a Nightmares and Dreamscapes episode.
Now I love Dystopian futures. Something to look forward to in this ever increasing likely society that we live in. The uprising it fuels I mean. But this film is just so depressing and grim and grey. It doesn't inspire anything in me. That is not to say that it is not a great movie though. Superbly acted and some stand out scenes and genuine shocks. It's just the general kind of complete dourness of it all. If it wasn't for Julianne (I've always liked her) Moore I may well have slit my wrists. But that's the message not the movie. Watch it.
I have to give it 5 just for what it is, bloody mental. This is Japanese, Asian, no holds barred, lets bloody do it film making at it's best. Loved It! There is nothing I can say as this is simple a film you either will have to watch or will never want to watch. I fell into the former cateGORY and fell about laughing. The second of the big hitting double acts. And I preferred this one to Righteous Kill. Corrupt police officers is a well used theme, If they'd just pay them a bit more perhaps things wouldn't get out of hand. So the tale may not be unique, but it is handled well. I was gripped from the start, Norton and Farrell can command that of a viewer. Dark, violent and gritty, you will care, not care and care again. Reminded me visually of Narc and it is just as nasty in places. Fireman have 'taches, coppers are bent. NY is so cliched.
Average story, gritty filming, I love New York city. It doesn't matter as it was never going to be about anything else but De Niro and Pacino. I don't need to tell you they can act, but so does everyone else on show in this. You got to watch it, but you might not be that amazed. Personally I always found Pacino the best of these giants, just seems to have more charisma about him. Tony Montana, Travis Bickle. Tony Montana, Travis Bickle. Tony Montana, Tra....Yep it is a tough one I know.
An oft forgotten horror from Robert Rodriguez. Well by me anyway. Haven't seen this for about 8 years, and it still looks good. I was discussing with a friend that they don't make these kind of films anymore, but we both overlooked this one. Most of the cast have gone onto bigger things since this affair, but this is not a bad film to be associated with. RR shows his style, so much better when he's not making kids flix. Clea Duvall and Laura Harris shine. I gotta watch Carnivale and Dead like me again now.
God bless 4OD, as without it I would have missed the 3rd season. This show has just got better and better with each season. Didn't think Granham Linehan could match Father Ted, but with this show he is doing it. His comedy is both out there and accessible at the same time. A lot of British comedy writers could learn from this man. Of course it helps when your cast consists of O'Dowd, Ayoade (brilliant in everything) and Parkinson. Jen is a character that gets better and better. Initially I found her annoying, probably because she resembles so many people I have worked with. Now though, Integral to the running of the show. When Chris Morris left I was worried who could replace him, Have no fear, Matt Berry is here. Comedy Genius amongst comedy gold.
So I finally get to watch the film Kevin Smith has been banging on about in his pod casts by his mate, Malcolm The Bear. Now this is a doc about the oppression and ignorance towards gay people in Mississippi and the Bible Belt of America. It's standard doc format with typical drivebys and slow dumb looks to the camera. A couple shocking stories and an appearance from Fred Phelps of 'Godhatesfags' Church or whatever he calls it. But no surprises. This probably happens everywhere and shit bars deserve to be shut down whether they are gay or straight. Now maybe they filmed everyone on a bad day, but I think the biggest shock you'd get from 'coming out' in the south is that the Bars are shit and Slim Pickens wasn't just an actor from Blazing Saddles. And I have to just say, that no matter how very vile and evil the Rev. Phelps is, without him we would never have had the phrase 'Fag Enabler'. Whatever your opinions, persuasions or feelings, that is bloody funny.
I just didn't get this one. It's not a scary and it's not really tense. I didn't care who lived or died (TJ aside of course) so maybe that had something to do with it, but aren't they supposed to make me care. Had a typical Stephen King DTV feel about it and the story unfolded predictably. Yep, the ending was stunning, but also poorly executed. Does that make sense, you'll have to watch it as it would be a bummer for me to write it. There is a BW version which is Franks preferred one. This might help as I kind of got a NOTLD vibe from this one, even if it was more people getting pissed at each other about the unknown evil outside. That said, it would've been better with zombies:)
This is a film I love. It reminds me of why I watch films so much. It flows well and builds tension. Blood and guts are in sweet supply and the DV style and editing draws you into the events onscreen. This makes me want to make movies. Just something so creative about it. Love the soundtrack as well. Hell I could have written this it's my both my ultimate nightmare and dream.
Well put together low budget war film. You can see it's influences and you can kind of see what they were trying to do. This isn't Saving Private Ryan, but when people die, you feel it. The weird thing is that most of the actors seem to look like someone else a little more famous. You probably need to like the genre to appreciate this one and even then, there's only so many close ups of boots you can take.
The new JB reboot is making my senses tingle. Bourne has resurrected the franchise and made it pull up it's socks. Crazy chases, crazy fights and crazy editing will alienate a lot, especially Bond fans. But it was dying anyway and needed a change of pace and direction. Well it's got one. Craig is second only to Connery in my eyes. Will require a few watches to truly appreciate, but then so did Casino Royale. Kick ass theme tune as well.
Above average average comedy. Some funny moments that usually involve the wheelchair or Jason Bateman, obviously. Zach Braff is clearly a funny actor, but needs the kind of material that Scrubs usually provides. Is not all bad news though, as the lovely Amanda Peet also stars. We are connected and I love to meet her someday. Alas, the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's a worse case scenario.
Lost in the high street, where the dogs run, roaming suburban boys. Mother's got a hairdo to be done, she says they're too old for toys Stood by the bus stop with a felt pen In this suburban hell. And in the distance a police car, to break the suburban spell. Break a window by the town hall, listen, the siren screams. There in the distance, like a roll call of all the suburban dreams. It's on the front page of the papers, this is their hour of need. Where's a policeman when you need one to blame the colour TV?
Never gets tired, never looks dated. One of the best modern day B movie horrors ever. Hell, can I still call it modern day after 18 Years. A lovable group of characters pitting themselves up against some underground monsters who are out to consume them. Just like a night down the Fire Engine!
Now this is epic. And not in a slow brooding way either but in a huge and bloody visual extravaganza type way. Everything looks stupendous and every actor (and there are some stunners on show) is bang on form. The fight scenes with Achilles are worth the admission alone. The ladies will swoon for Pitt but Bana is the star. Is there anything this man can't do?

Murder, Intrigue, Espionage, Blackmail....Relationships, Marriage, Infidelity, Internet Dating and Dildos.......................Aah, must be a Coen Brothers film then. My favourite type of Coen film as well with plenty of madcap and black humour, you know, when you're laughing and then...BOOM!!!
Gun totting, eye pooping, jaw dropping action from the master of such things... John Woo. If you like your action stylized and shallow then this is for you. His ridiculous slow-mo sequences will never be the same since Garth Marenghi, but I will love them always anyway. Check it out for a incredible last hour that makes ER look like A Country Practice. Blinding!! 
Is it for kids? If I was a kid I think I might have found this a little chilled for my attention span. A nice twist on the animation with it being filmed documentary style. Not mocumentary I add as this is a true story. The animation is fab as well. A great film to watch when you're feeling slightly hungover and tired from the night before as long as you remember that animated penguins could never be as funny as the real thing. What's the message, well as my friend Nick says 'Just do It!'.
