Pretty In P!nk - Dirty Pretty Thing.........Isn't she.

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It was off to the NIA we did go. A surprisingly easy event to get to without the need of the worse human dumbing invention since the Calculator, the SatNav. Must have used a Flux Capacitor to get back though as I'm sure we arrived back before we left????

So this was my first Live 'Show' I believe. I've been to many 'Gigs' but I don't think this falls under that category. Whats the difference, well maybe the fact that they get over exited at high lighting a guitar solo. Whether this is because the music is not really that important, or because the audience wouldn't appreciate it, I'm not sure. I think it may just be to hide the fact that P!nk has run off for a costume change though. I'm quite glad she did as some of them were smoking. Luckily she dropped into water at the end and came out all wet....err, I digress.

This was the 'Funhouse' tour and as such had plenty of circus/burlesque/crazy shit going on in its entire presentation. All the songs were performed with energy and spectacle and I could sing along to the ones that I knew. As she performed many covers it helped that she has rock taste like I. Her cover of Zepplins ' Babe I'm gonna Leave You' was both a surprise and a pleasure (it sure made up for the acoustic version of 'Trouble' - why do they all slow down my favourite numbers, The Killers did it with 'Sams Town') and kudos to Bohemian Rhapsody (along with the excellent Freddie Inspired costume) which had all of the crowd singing along.

If only the crowd were as good as the act. Sadly too many people filming on there poxy phones (some filming the big screen- Duh!!!). I had the worlds slowest photographer in front of me, who seemed to be unable to grasp the fact that the act was likely to move every few seconds, hence why he couldn't get a good photo. Dweeb! And I am possibly unlikely to ever be in a room filled with so many Scissor Sisters at the same time ever again (Phew, as they never look the same as they do in Carpet Munchers 3 - thanks for that one Donnelly). You see P!nk is a bit of a Gay Icon. That old pop star frontman sexual ambiguity thing going on. Never seen it in a female star before, but she has used it to great results.

Loved every minute of it. She is gone, but the joke's the same.

Crank - Adrenaline Junkie

England's Greatest (Only???) action movie star in another A+ event. Crank immerses you from the off telling its high octane story using techniques that make you feel Stathams' confusion and frustration. For a comedy action thriller it is up there with the best of the genre. 'Popcorn movie' is the term I believe and this is what Postal could have been had Uwe Boll not been involved. I am of course a biased Statham Supporter. The man doesn't make bad films.

Black Sheep - If only Seth was still alive

Sheep are not the first thing that springs to mind when you are thinking of scaring someone. And this film is far from scary. It's just good old fashioned stupid gore and laughter. Unfortunately not nearly as funny or gory as the ultimate New Zealand gore fest 'Braindead'. But it's a good effort and will appeal to genre fans.

Donnie Darko - They made me watch it

It's as good as they say it is. Watch It! It will mean different things to different people. Is it about fate?? Is it about choices? Is it a film about time travel and the paradoxical events that are created? Am I just spouting trash and trying to be clever? Look, listen and learn.

Battlestar Galactica - The Greatest Story Ever Told.......................Frakkin' A!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!! So this is how you experience both joy and sadness at the same time. You watch your favourite TV show come to an end. Something that rarely happens and never this well. Because it is simply the greatest Sci Fi show (could be the greatest TV show ever, although BoB still holds that spot even if that is more like an 11 hour film) ever made.

High praise indeed I hear you shout. Maybe it is, but it is justified. The creative mind of Ronald D. Moore has done this before in scifi in another show which explored similar themes undercover of 'geeky scifi'. That show was Star Trek Deep Space Nine. But where that show took about 4 seasons to find it's feet, this one just needed 4 from the off. The sad thing is that many people ignored DS9 for its scifi (and probably Star Trek) links and the same people have probably missed this.

They took the 70's original and made something spectacular. Love, loss, birth , death, politics, war, religion, spirituality, evolution, everything is covered and worthy of its inclusion. I think the success of 24 enabled them to tell this story over the time they did. Episodic television it is not. And the hand held camera style ensures tension and drama at all times. The FX are stunning, especially the space dogfights (Ironic as this is the bit that I hated the most in the original, hmmm or was that Buck Rogers???) and their style is very similar to those of Firefly. That means they don't look clean and out of place, cos space is dirty.

If you can fault this show then I bow to your need to condemn ;) When it ended , it was complete and yet open. This shows its class. After 9 seasons of X Files, I felt cheated, after 6 years of Sopranos I thought a fuse had gone. If I can only find one fault it will be the fact that they made the word 'reimagining' work, and that could spell disaster for a few years of TV.

The Day After Tomorrow - That was the week that was

Well I will be celebrating. Fantastic news as I love snow. Although it does appear that the UK will just freeze over completely. More Emmerich world smashing going on here, and he loves destroying the USA, must of had some bad childhood memories. I mentioned the beheading of The Statue of Liberty in the Cloverfield review, it shows it's iconic presence in this film as well. Brilliant. More US world saving going on here just like Independence Day, but hey it's an easy watch and a gripping watch.

Sunshine - An Event on the Horizon

Oscar winning director Danny Boyles largely ignored scifi masterpiece? Not really original but still a fantastic visual and aural feast. The similarities to Event Horizon and the lesser known Dark Side of the Moon are there. But that's not a bad thing. Scifi doesn't have to be all space battles and starships you know. A little psychological scariness goes a long way. Our Danny is building quite a Speilberg-esq library it seems.

Cloverfield - No four leaf ones around here.

Oh my god that's some funky shit! The whole movie is shot from a camcorder perspective, Ala 'Blair Witch' and the infinitely better 'REC'. But where as those two movies are very low budget affairs, this is a full on SFX bonanza. The amount of thought needed to make a movie like this is just incredible, and it works. Plenty of rewatchability to see what you missed. Take the head of the Statue of Liberty and you are on to a winner.

Team America: World Police - Thunderbirds Are Go!! F*CK YEAH!!!!

The funniest film ever. Clever. Smart. Satirical. All comedy should be like this. FAB

The cameras are everywhere. There is no escape. I had made my meeting with Brill, I thought I was safe. he had warned me many time, 'Stay off the roads, keep on the moors'. Well, at least I think that's what he said. But in guerrilla warfare you use your weaknesses as strengths. If they're big and you're small, then you're mobile and they're slow. You're hidden and they're exposed. You only fight battles you know you can win. That's the way the Vietcong did it. You capture their weapons and you use them against them the next time.

Thing is, I was only going for a coffee. I'm definitely not DL'ing that Wolverine workprint now ;)
